The Wetland Centre has been established in 2001 by WWF Pakistan at Sandspit, Karachi, in the middle of a mangrove forest.

It is about 40 minutes drive from the city. The centre is a hub of environmental education, awareness activities and provides an excellent opportunity of observing nature closely. The beach opposite the centre adds attraction to the centre.

Wetlands Centre’s Biodiversity

Green turtles come to the Sandspit beach for nesting every year; migratory birds from Central Asia use the surrounding area of the Centre for staging and feeding.

Wetlands Centre and Environmental Education

For past eight years, Wetland Centre has been involved in raising awareness of school students, teachers, media, corporate sector and general public at large. It has been an active venue for environmental education, hands on field activities, awareness-raising seminars, campaigns and tourism.  The Programmes at the wetlands centre involve local communities, community based organization (CBOs) and local NGOs to address various environmental issues and explore solutions and partnerships for sustainability of the Centre.
